Interesting Corners In The City Of Chania

In Chania, in the beautiful location of Profitis Ilias, stand the tombs of the Venizelos family, just 5 km east of the city. Eleftherios Venizelos had expressed the desire for this location to be his last home, just a few kilometers away from his house located in the Halepa district of the city of Chania. In 1936, his tomb was built at this point. The location is enchanting, beautiful, in the green and the coolness of the pines, the aroma of history emerges.

In 1965, opposite the tomb of Eleftherios Venizelos, the tomb of his son Sophocles Venizelos was erected, who was also the Prime Minister of Greece from 1943 to 1952. The two tombs of Venizelos, facing each other, are located in a beautiful park with gardens, cobbled floors, alleys, stairs and terraces, under the shade of pine trees. What gives great beauty to the space is the blue sea and the panoramic view of Chania and the wider area.

Next to the tomb of Venizelos was written in metal letters the funeral speech that he had delivered to the Greek parliament in April 1932.
